    Cardiovascular Biomechanics ISS Group

     

    Mission

    Bioengineering metodologies and  diagnostic tecnologies as support for cardiology, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular surgery, evaluation and laboratory prototyping of implantable medical devices such as prosthetic heart valves, stents, Prosthetic vessels, cannulation, extracorporeal circulation, life support pumps

    Studies

    In vitro experimental and numerical simulations to investigate cardiovascular fluid dynamics (vortex structures, flow separation, energy loss) by means of magnetic resonance, angiography and echo-doppler for biomechanical parameters monitoring (ventricular pressure-volume measurements, pressure and flow signals, analysis and dsp realization)

    Experimental in-vitro Set Ups:

    Prosthetic Heart Valve mock loops, Open Loop Mechanical Assistance mock loop, Prosthetic Vessel compliance tester, Stent mechanical properties tools, Laser Doppler Anemometry (2D and 3D), Particle Image Velocimetry 2D, Particle Tracking Velocity, Real Time Multigate US Doppler Profilometry, Echo Doppler, Fatigue Life testers, Ventricular Pressure-Volume technique
